Luis Gasset, CEO of Al Zain Jewellery, tells us how the renowned house honours centuries-old tradition through its contemporary jewels for today’s woman.

OHLALA – Please tell us about Al Zain Jewellery and what your strategic vision for it is.
Luis Gasset –
Every great jewellery maison has a story to tell. Al Zain’s began in Bahrain in 1930, with natural pearls and generations of master craftsmen establishing an exceptional jewellery legacy.
Al Zain’s vision is to further strengthen its position among the world’s leading fine and high jewellery maisons, translating the artistic and cultural richness of the Middle East into contemporary creations distinguished by exceptional design and savoir-faire.
Natural pearls remain at the heart of our DNA, symbolising the company’s profound connection with the Arabian Gulf and commitment to protecting the sea and preserving its maritime richness.
Rooted in nearly a century of tradition, Al Zain continues to reinvent Arabian heritage for the contemporary world.

OHLALA – How has your background in high-end luxury goods and luxury travel operations contributed to your success at a Bahrain-based high jewellery brand?
Luis –
Experience with international luxury brands such as Loewe and Bulgari within LVMH, followed by Qatar Airways, has given me a profound understanding of creativity, craftsmanship, brand desirability and exceptional customer experience.
Beyond operational excellence lies an essential conviction: true luxury is born from the interplay of emotion and intelligence. Like a work of art or an architectural masterpiece, an exceptional jewel transcends its beauty to become part of someone’s personal story. At Al Zain, this philosophy brings together authentic regional heritage with the creativity, sophistication and exacting standards of international luxury.

OHLALA – How has Al Zain scaled its presence across MENA and Europe during your time with the brand?
Luis –
A maison’s international journey is measured not simply by the number of boutiques, but by the strength of the identity it brings to each destination. Al Zain continues to strengthen its presence across the Gulf, with Qatar occupying a particularly important position through six points of sale, including Printemps Doha and Harvey Nichols Doha. The recent opening at Kingdom Centre in Riyadh represents another significant milestone.
Beyond the region, we are present in the United States through Neiman Marcus, while developing selective opportunities in Europe.
The ambition is to establish the Middle East not merely as a destination for luxury, but as an extraordinary source of artistic creativity and exceptional craftsmanship.

OHLALA – In what ways has Al Zain’s design approach evolved in the recent past?
Luis –
There is extraordinary architectural poetry in the Middle East, expressed through the rhythm of arches, geometric harmony and intricate ornamentation.
Al Zain’s creative evolution explores this dialogue between architecture, art and jewellery, transforming the region’s rich cultural heritage into a distinctive contemporary design language.
Collections such as Mushabbak, Arab Deco and Sadu reinterpret traditional artistic influences through refined forms, harmonious proportions and sophisticated craftsmanship. Supported by more than 300 highly skilled artisans, Al Zain transforms ancestral inspiration into contemporary creations of timeless elegance. Each jewel becomes a wearable work of art, celebrating the harmony between cultural identity, the beauty of nature and the savoir-faire of our artisans.
